Black Angus-Farms
In 1983 we finally were able to buy our own piece of Oregon. There was a lot of work in the beginning with fence building, barn raising, adjusting to our 2nd son, and making a home out of an old farm house.
The 1980's years were not easy ones by any means, we could barely make mortgage payments, then I (Jim) got cancer in 1984, and a 2nd cancer in 1989. Dispute all of the issues at hand with two young sons, a loving and caring wife we were able to pull through these hard times with God giving us comfort and the courage to continue. My family have all accepted Jesus Christ as our savior, and without him ('Christ') in our lives I'm certain we would have failed to make. All Thanks be to God!
In 1995 we decided to make a real go with our small farm of 12 acres and name it "Broke Again Farms, LTD". The reason for the name is self evident, as we were often too broke to fix what was broke, or it seems that every time we turned around something was broken and needed to be fixed. This year I was given a sabbatical leave of absence from the company, so we decided to go on a short road trip during the 8 weeks off from work. We "ALL" (Dad, Mom, 2 boys, 2 dogs) in a super cab ford pick-up with a fixer upper camper on it, and headed to Alaska! We held our 1st corporate meeting in Fairbanks Alaska in a Pizza Hut restaurant. That was some road trip that none of us will ever forget!
By this time we were all very much involved with 4-H, FFA, Sports, Gun Clubs, Boy Scouts. Some how we also started our own Black Angus Registered herd. Our boys showed them in County and State competitions, and they did extremely well with our cows.
My wife was in charge of the herd during this time and still is. Her breeding program is extremely good and all of the animals in our herd are born and raised right here in Buxton Oregon. We do not bring in any other animals onto the farm, and we do our own A.I. breeding.
We sell replacement heifers and bulls to anyone who is interested.
We also have USDA Black Angus Meat Available through our "What's for Dinner Barn".
In 2010 we decided to change the farm name to "Black Angus-Farms.COM", as we thought a positive name to the public would sound better to everyone. We still own Broke Again Farms, LTD and this new name will be a sub-entity.
We are very much involved with a few Farmers Markets (Astoria Sunday Market, & Hillsboro Tuesday Market Place), where we sell our Steaks, Roasts, Hamburger Patties, ground beef, Jerky and Pepperoni snack foods.
